Former Republican presidential candidate Bob Dole endorsed Jeb Bush for president today, leaving the world scratching their heads and expressing their surprise that Dole is actually still alive.
Dole's endorsement comes as Bush's ratings plummeted to 3 percent, threatening to push him out of the top tier of Republican candidates. Still, Dole's endorsement and appointment to the role of national veteran chairman for the Bush campaign (on Veteran's Day, natch) is expected to help Jeb garner the support of the armed forces –– or at least make him slightly more electable than my dog.
Dole ran against Jeb Bush's father, George H.W. Bush, twice in the Republican primaries in the 1980s before he finally got the nod in 1996. He was then defeated by Bill Clinton (the husband of current Democratic front runner, Hillary Clinton). While next year's presidential election was originally predicted to be another battle of two dynasties, featuring Jeb Bush vs. Hillary Clinton, Jeb has struggled to gain popular support.
Although the 92-year-old Dole praised Bush's political experience, it's safe to say that experience isn't what Republican voters are looking for. The current Republican leaders, Donald Trump and Ben Carson, are a businessman and a neurosurgeon, respectively.
